MySpace

Friends,

Thank you for all of your comments and support since the release of Tarnation. It means more to me than you could ever know.

Although there's been no new activity (on my end) for quite a while on this blog, I do still check in and read it from time to time. Fortunately, I'm very busy with new film projects, which makes it tough to find time to post.

I've set up a new MySpace page recently, and I've been good about checking it every day.

Please visit me there as well. (linked on the right side of this page) I'll try to keep it more current.

Love,

Jonathan

As I’m writing this comment I’m watching the scene where your mother dances with a pumpkin. It is a beautiful movie you’ve made and I’m looking forward to seeing the next one. Even if it’ll be in 2012 (considering Tarnation is four years old and it is only now swedish television decides to air it.)

This movie really called my attention because it was based in the real life of an american family and although I don't identify with the film, it was a very nice and intresting production and I would see it again lots of times because from some way it made me reflect about the worth of the family.

i liked it because it talks about topics that aren't treated in many situation in our society, but not for that reason they are less important, like the case ofhomosexuality.a very good movie!

Hey man,
I feel very sad about the fact that there are people like you that prefer to expose their anger, pain, all this dark places of your little boring life, they may burn our eyes but many of us will say - exposed pain is beutifull.
Open your eyes, man, stop feeling pity for yourself.
People should the hell the live in, making grotesk movies about it is not a good idea...
Sorry for truth.
Good luck.

Hi Jon!
I wrote this from Chile.
First of all, congratulations, you've done a great job with the film. I wrote this 'cause i've been writing a little work that includes an analisys of the film under the Second-order cybernetics theory and would know if u, as maker could pleas add some facts or some interpretation that could give me the correct point to focus the paper.

Greets!

I went in to watch the film, completely unprepared for what was coming. Your film moved me tremendously, it was intense, harsh, yet so touching, sensitive, and gentle at the same time. My hands were shaking when it was done, I was emotionally overwhelmed. Thank you.
Oh and i loved the soundtrack.

Jonathan,

I just got through watching 'Tarnation' and I was very moved by it. Thank you so much for your work, you are a very strong, devoted and courageous artist and person. I tried to write you through myspace but could not get through. I know you do not accept myspace friend requests from bands, but I thought I'd at least write and tell you how much I appreciated the film and all the work that went into it.

My project is 'The National Cynical Network' and I have been working on it for some 10 years. In a way it reminds me of your work even though it is just audio and not film. I employ a lot of the same collage type of style you use. You're invited to check it out: http://www.nationalcynical.com or http://www.myspace.com/nationalcynical here on myspace. I think you might like the song 'Jello' that's on there.

I am a gay man living in San Jose, California and have been here since I was 9 years old. I spend a lot of my time isolating and working on the computer, on my projects. I get therapy once a week at the local mental health clinic, but my real therapy is my work. At one time or another, I have been diagnosed with everything from schizophrenia, bipolar, borderline personality disorder, DID, schizo-affective, and A.D.D.

I just call it CFS or 'Chronically Fucked-Up Syndrome'. Anyway. 'Labels' huh?

My own mom passed away 4 years ago. We were very close. In 1961, before I was born, she was put in the Michigan State Mental Hospital for 16 months where she was given shock treatments. She never got over the experience. She suffered a great deal. So parts of your film really struck a chord with me.

I very much admire your courage in showing what you've been through. It's an amazing film and I just wanted to thank you for it.

Sincerely,

Phinny
